Does smoking cigarettes inhibit the effects of antibiotics?

Someone I know is being treated for MRSA in their nasal passage and is a smoker. They are currently going through antibiotic treatments and I am curious if this is affecting the outcome. It seems like it would due to the infection being in their respiratory system.
