I have a nook and i live in a foreign country?

so i got the nook device thing as a gift and i live in a foreign country and I just learned you cant buy nook books outside of the US. so i'll be going to the us soon now and I wanted to know if I could just get some wi-fi access from a restaurant or hotel in the us and still be able to buy nook books from there. also i have the software hotspot shield and wanted to know if that will make any difference.
