Sad love story, help? for a book?

i just watched remember me. im not trying to copy them, but i want to write a sad love story/book. my main girl is going to be called a shortish name with a ( i like names like ally, not just cause of remember me) and i want the guy to be named jake. thats about all i have, except for (we will call the girl "A") that A's dad passed before she was bron, so she craves male attention. her mom remarried a year after she was born, and the new dad hates her. thats all i could think of, besides at the end, A finds out her step-dad is sick, and he commits suicide, and she blames herself. how do i fit jake in?
